Went here a couple weeks back for dinner and a very nice experience. My friend & I came in half an hour before they closing and received excellent service without feeling rushed at all. The owners and their friends were at the bar socializing and it made it feel very friendly and family like hearing their german tales, some in german, and their laughter. So we both had to get a German Beer, served in a nice big stein. Thank you. They serve Spaten, either Dunkel, Lager or Pilsner as well as Franziskaner Weissbier Each meal comes with an interesting salad topped with beets, beans, cabbage and a sour cream dressing.Really good and different. For dinner I had the pork schnitzel 9$17.90) with a side of jaeger sauce (offered by our helpful server-Thank you!) served with lyonnais potatoes and mixed vegis. The schnitzle was perfectly done. Cooked to a nice crisp without being overcooked or tough. The potatoes were delicious too. I don't know what they do to them to make them so good but wow! Friend had the Jaeger Schnitzle with spaetzle and it was very good as well ($17.90 as well) Perfectly made, the spaetzle was so good with the jaeger sauce. The decor here is very old fashiohned. Very 80's with mauve and green but it's very clean and well kept. Felt like having dinner at my german grandmothers house, well without the yelling! THe service was spot on, the owners were super friendly and I'd be more then glad to try this establishment again!

I can't say enough about this wonderful restaurant! Hospitality awesome, food spectacular and very filling! Salad is delicious and it comes with your meal! Locally owned, rarely a wait for dinner and the best homemade desserts in town.

Schnitzel and spatzle.... Done right and delicious. Potatoe pancakes were tasty but heavy - I tend to prefer lighter but that is a personal preference. Overall, good meal and huge portions. Good value.

Oh how I love the Holstein Schnitzel! Every time we go to Cafe Vienna we are treated to a great family atmosphere and really good food by the lovely staff. They have everything from perfectly tender fried wiener schnitzel to dishes like the Jaeger Braten, pan seared and served with a delicious mushroom gravy and home made spaetzle.

This was the first time I have ever been here and I have lived in the area my whole life. I have always wanted to try them out but couldn't convince the wife to try them out. So finally for my birthday/anniversary, we went. And what a let down. We arrived at 4:30. Parking lot only had two or three cars and a couple were leaving as we pulled in. I know this is a small place and does get full fast so we decided to go early to beat the crowd. First thing we are asked if we had a reservation. No. There were only two other tables seated in the main dinning room when we arrived and they were wrapping up to leave. Since we did not have a reservation we were told we could not sit in the main dinning room as they have many many reservations after 5pm. Ok, it was only 4:30. So we are seated in a small room between the bar and the main dinning room... next to the stand where the silverware and napkins are kept. With in a matter of about 10 minutes a couple of other tables came in who apparently had reservations, including a party of 8 who all got seated next to us... in the small room. Food was ok. I ordered Sourbroten (spelling?) and my wife ordered the Stroganoff. The salad was good. The food did not taste fresh. The beef was tender in mine. The Stroganoff tasted as if it was reheated sauce poured over reheated meat. The spaetzle, though I thought was good, had no flavor and was only warm on both of our plates. Everything tasted like it needed some salt. Our expectation for arriving early for an early dinner was that the food would have been really fresh and nice and hot. My wife didn't like her dinner at all and ended up leaving more than half. We ended up taking the left overs in a box that never ended up getting eaten anyway. The deserts were way overpriced for what they had to offer so we ended up elsewhere in town for desert. We were rushed through our meal and were out of there in under an hour. When we left at 5:30, only about 5 other tables occupied the restaurant, with only two in the main dinning room. The place was otherwise empty. So where were all of these "many many reservations after 5pm" we will never know. We might go back to give them a second chance, but it will be a while. Next time we will remember to make a reservation so we can, maybe get a nicer table away from all of the clankity clank of the bus boy rummaging through the silverware right next to me. I don't know if we came on a bad day (a Sunday evening) or what, but the service was not the friendliest, the owner was the one who greeted us with "since you don't have a reservation we have to sit you here" attitude. I hear folks always raving about this place. Just didn't happen here.

My husband and I had dinner here tonight. We love German food but have had a difficult time finding it locally. I purchased a Living Social deal and we went. Boy am I glad we did. We ordered an appetizer of potato dumplings with goat cheese cream sauce. Rich, tasty and delightful best describes it. My husband ordered Yeager schnitzel with spaetzle and red cabbage. For me it was curry wurst, sauer kraut, and German potato salad. This was some of the best German food I've ever had. My husband states it was comparable to what he had when he was stationed in Germany. We will definitely return. We may go for lunch next and take my daughter and son-in-law or even my in-laws when they are in for a visit. My in-laws were stationed in Germany as we'll and appreciate great German cuisine as we'll.

Can't say enough about this family run restaurant. I have toured all over the world and this is one yummy and very appetizing German restaurant! Their schnitzel is delicious and the sauces (jaeger or zigeuner) are amazing in both quality and taste! Each dish starts off with a Salad or soup and bread. The salad is a very nice mixture of items that leaves you wanting more! You will not leave here hungry. The beers are tap are top of the line also tasty and go great paired with a meal. The stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer is a great starting dish to share.

Excellent German food--will be back! In St Pete for work and stumbled upon this place. The interior could use an update, but the food is excellent. Sourbrauten was perfect, the salad was unique and very German. Only improvement would be serving good German rye bread.
Food was great and people were super friendly. Strongly recommended! We felt like we were traveling in Germany again. The athmosphere was 100% authentic. Beer, bread, the shnitzels, everey dish we tried was superb! The deserts were amazing as well. Loved it! If this restaurant was closer to home we would be there every week!
Our dining experience here would have been exponentially better if the restaurant was not under-staffed. I was almost impossible to get the attention of anyone since they were speeding back and forth trying to literally run to food out. There were only two servers on this night and the poor service showed. Even a single busboy would have made things nicer. The food was OK, typical German fare, prices were a bit about what the restaurant warranted but not exorbitant.

We've been going to Cafe Vienna for a couple of years now. As stated by other Yelper's it is not much to look at, it is unassuming in a strip mall and the decor inside leaves something to be desired, but we've always been pleased with the food and service. They are on Groupon a lot so keep your eyes peeled to get one and try this at a discount. I don't eat red meat and very little pork so my options here are limited, but my boyfriend really likes this place as a treat. They do have salmon and I like the gypsy sauce which is a spicy red pepper sauce. The gnocchi are good too and the spaetzel is very yummy too. It is traditional German / Austrian fare so come hungry and ready for interesting sauces. Each dinner is served with soup (every time I've gone it's been Chicken Noodle) or salad (which I always get), bread with a cream cheese spread and your entree with veggies. They serve beer and wine and we usually get a bottle of German Reisling - they have a nice one that is not too sweet - Starling Castle. The desserts are traditional too. The Viennese Nut Cake and Crepe with Whipped Creme and Fruit are our two favorites. Mahlzeit! Prost!!

Cafe Vienna is where we eat to celebrate special occasions, like our anniversary. The entrees taste very close to meals we've eaten in Germany. My favorite is the Yeager schnitzel (mushroom sauce) with the home made spaetzel. It comes with a fresh salad with an assortment of items, including cucumbers, beans, beets, marinated cabbage & lettuce. The brats, German beer & wine are also really good. We don't work near this restaurant so unfortunately cannot enjoy lunch here since lunch is only served on weekdays.

Looks like we've found our new work lunch destination - good, cheap, and the food is definitely fresh. I've been wanting to try this place for lunch for a while - its close to work; I love German food; and the lunch menu is really cheap. About $7 to $9 for all the meals. Now most of my coworkers are not as adventurous as I am, but I convinced them thanks to the lunch sandwiches and cheap prices. 7 of us came in, we're promptly seated and our drink orders taken. The decor is awesome, and I had to restrain myself from seeing if the beer steins were authentic or not. We ordered a variety of options from the lunch menu - 1 Jaeger Schnitzel, 1 Zigeuner Schnitzel, 1 Wiener Schnitzel, 1 Turkey Panini, 1 vegetable panini, 1 salad. I had the Zigeuner Schnitzel and was more than happy. Good sized portion, the sauce was excellent - had heat, but didn't take away from the flavor. The best looking was the Wiener Schnitzel, which was huge - the patty was the size of the plate. Everyone was happy with their meals, and even with the 18% gratuity because there were 7 of us, most left paying less than $10. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars was the slightly slow service with my beer. I ordered it at the same time as my meal, and didn't get it until after I was done. Other than that, the experience was excellent and I look forward to returning for either lunch or dinner.

Sehr Gut! We had Jaeger Schnitzel & Wiener Schnitzel, along with a couple of beers. The service was prompt. We barely had to wait for a table. Very cute inside. Loved the decor. Lots of typical German items, cuckoo clocks, steins, little decorated glasses. They servers uniforms were in keeping with the theme without being caricatures (no lederhosen or dirndl's, thank goodness). I do wish they had a larger beer selection, particularly Spaten Optimator! They had two Spaten beers, Lager and Dunkel. I had the lager. It was good. They do serve their water European style with no ice, which I liked. They must have filtered it as it was much better than your average St Pete tap water, with the sulphur aftertaste even with ice and lemon! Both meals came with salads. We had one cucumber with a dill sour cream. Very fresh! Also a plate with salad greens, cabbage or coleslaw with a german-style vinegar base (which I loved!), beets, and beans on a chilled plate. I've never seen a plate served like that in a German restaurant. I really liked it. I had the Jaeger Schnitzel with Spaetzel. The Spaetzel was the best I've had! Everything was really good. Dinner portions were large, as is typical of German restaurants. It was very busy when we arrived. The servers were no nonsense and very efficient. Not very chatty but polite and helpful. We had the Viennese Nut cake for dessert. It was good, but I'd probably try a different one next time. Overall, really enjoyed this place. I think I'd like to go back for dinner or the early bird dinner (4p-6p) and sit at the bar. Seemed like the family that wasn't working that night was hanging there and there would probably be some interesting conversation!

If you go here, go with an empty stomach. You will be eatting A LOT of food. This is our go-to place for Austrian food. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you step inside you feel like you've transported into a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Europe. The decor is extremely charming and this place is family run so you're always greeted with warmth and smiles. The atmosphere is complete with old Europe songs flowing from the speakers. I've tried a variety of dishes here and all are good, but I keep going back to the Jaeger Schnitzel. The sauce is just to die for (a creamy mushroom wine sauce) and I love the side of lingonberries it comes with. It also comes with steamed veggies and spetzle. We always have to douse our spetzle with salt and pepper, but the meat is where it's at anyway. Before your entree they bring a basket of warm bread and this amazing cream cheese spread. You get a soup or salad with your entree as well. You can't go wrong either way, but I always get the salad. With sauerkraut, marinated beets, chic peas and a yummy dressing it's an awesome salad. I also always get a glass of their house Reisling, which is just the right amount of sweet. And they serve it in the most adorable glasses. This is definitely the place to go for when you want a nice, quiet dinner out and are in the mood for a hearty meal.

Had a $50 groupon, family of 4 with two young kids., my son isn't a meat eater and prefers inferior foods such as fried chicken dinners and chicken nuggets.,he was not happy but oh well. My daughter isn't that picky, but she was not so sure about this place either. When all was done, my son had the bread, potato pancakes and dessert (choc cake)., my daughter tried the potato leek soup and some of my filet and potatoes. As for my husband and I, we loved this dinner. We doing all the food to be flavorful, and fresh. The filet Albert was yummy. The food is not very spicy, but filling. I would go back again. Our bill was about $80 before the groupon. We ordered two enrees, three appetizers, two desserts, one cafe Vienna. Service was great. The server was attentive and all the plates were piping hot. Would definitely return.
I have been to this restaurant once so far and I was very pleased with the experience. Prices are low, with lots of different German inspired dishes to try. I would personally recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a inexpensive lunch.

One word: Tasteless. Just ate the Veal Jagerschnitzel and spätzle and the food literally had no flavor. We were extremely disappointed because we wanted to find a new German place. I lived in Germany for five years and have traveled to Austria multiple times. The service was great but I just cannot recommend this place based on the blandness of the food. We won't be going back.

Ok place but we wouldn't go out of our way to go there again. We went for lunch and the food was ok but not inexpensive. Lot's of Schnitzels and the standard southern German fare - there is more to German food then this and I do know since I was born there. This food does not have a wow factor and the inside of the restaurant is a bit dingy and needs more natural light.

Virginia G said it - even though her review is almost 2 years old. The place is clean, oddly painted inside, the owner does come around to check that things were okay and the wait staff is attentive. Everything is pork, pork, pork, with some veal and tons of butter. We've been too full to try many of the desserts. My favorite is the salad. I could honestly and truly take home a bucketful and be happy forever. It's dressed with a light dill creamy dressing and contains marinated red kidney beans and beets (which I learned to love thanks to this salad) and a few other things that are just delicious. I will have to go back again, and re-review the place because it's been at least a year, but that salad is amazing. Worthwhile, slightly pricy, heavy on the butter, but good.

The most authentic German food experience you will find. You have to try the duck! A good way to tell if a German restaurant is the real deal is the salad, and they do it right. Always a pleasure, and less expensive than flying to Germany. Awesome desert as well.

The inside is really creepy, not comfortable at all and the music is erie. I actually think the way the place is decorated is what makes the music erie. The food was great, I had a filet mignon steak with a butter topping. Very expensive place, had I not had a Groupon, I probably wouln't have eaten there.

Went there for lunch on a weekday. The beef stroganoff that I ordered tasted good and the portions were about what I expected, but the wait for our entree dishes seemed long (30 minutes). And there were probably only 2 other groups of patrons there. May not be the best place for lunch on a workday (well, maybe except for Fridays). The atmosphere can be described as quaint and Other than that, it was an enjoyable dining experience.

Perhaps the best restaurant in Tampa bay. Homemade food. Owner is there always. I love the butter spread and bread they bring out and the Vienna steak is the best steak in town. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. Atmosphere is very authentic German. If you're craving a good steak and not going here then you have problems. Soups are always good as well.

This food is absolutely delicious. If Cafe Vienna existed and was available during the socialist occupation - I would almost forgive Hitler if he could create food this good. But probably not. The food is really good though. I had the homemade chicken soup and the duck with the potato salad. The names were obviously in german but jesus h. christ - I've never thought I would savor a potato like I did.

Let's talk about German food for a minute. Being a 1/4 German I was raised with the cooking of a fantastic German grandmother. Spaetzle, Strudel, Bratwurst, Leberkase were normal fare. Imagine my delight when I moved to St Pete and discovered not only a German bakery (Cafe Mozart) but also a German restaurant! Every meal I have had here is amazing and takes me back to summer memories with gram. I recommend anything covered in Jäger sauce. I'd like to have it on tap. Seriously good food served by friendly people!

I have eaten here every time my wife and I have been in St Petersburg. The schnitzels are very very tasty. The red cabbage is a must order. The spaetzle noodles are homemade. The steaks are very tasty and well aged. Worth a try.

A real treat to discover and get a last minute reservation in during our visit to St Petersburg. The decor and feel was great and authentic. Their menu was a nice variety of traditional specials. We had the Jaeger Braten, Stroganoff and Bedener. Well presented, timely and delicious. I particularly liked the salad, with beets, a light slaw and beans. If you manage to have room for the strudel!

What a nice restaurant. It is spacious and airy. We were greeted warmly and seated promptly. The food was delicious. Our appetizer was potato cakes (4) served with applesauce and sour cream. The Duck Hattenhofen, served with red cabbage and spaetzie, was cooked perfectly and was very delicious. We also had Jaeger Schnitzel and Sauerbraten which were scrumptious. Although we did not drink, the restaurant had extensive wine and beer selections. Sadly, we were all too full for desserts from their enticing menu. I really enjoyed Café Vienna and would recommend it to anyone.

I am really giving Cafe Vienna 3.5 stars.... it's not quite 4, but I'd come back. We tried it last week with a Groupon. I had ZERO expectations because a friend of mine said her experience wasn't good. But it's the only German restaurant I know of in St. Petersburg, so we decided to give it try. It's located in an odd little strip mall with poor parking. Inside, the ambiance is cheese-city -- very German kitschy -- but weirdly enchanting. Our server was friendly and helpful. After much deliberation (because there are so many wonderful sounding choices on the menu, and those eating around us had wonderful-looking food) we finally both chose the Jaeger Schnitzel ($16.90): pork pounded thin, sautéed and then cooked with red wine and button mushrooms. It was pretty bland, yet still somehow very appealing. The lingonberry side saved this dish from boredom -- it added a bright freshness and much needed zip. The schnitzel was tender and satisfying (I did add quite a bit of salt and pepper). The cucumber salad was WONDERFUL -- fresh, light, beautiful. We both had wine and coffee -- our total bill was $53 -- so not bad at all. I am anxious to try something else there -- somehow it all works together (the bad decor, strip mall, great service, casual atmosphere and blandish-food). It's not fancy or exciting -- but extremely relaxing and comforting.

It's Surreal... Let me start by saying this restaurant is situated in a strip mall and will be easily overlooked if you are driving by. I purchased a Groupon for this location and was excited as always to try something new (to me, Austrian). The Groupon was for $40 and featured 2 glasses of beer or wine, an appetizer, soup, salad, entrée and dessert, a great deal! My wife called and made reservations for us, just in case for a Sunday night at 7:30p. When we arrived it was raining out and I noticed that unfortunately there was no overhang by the front door, in Florida this seemed weird, so I thought I would note. There was a chef and some type of crest wooden figures surrounding the door that are eye catching which is good because the plaster around the door is chipping and there was mold stains on the sidewalk. When you enter you will be looking at a wall with some forgotten plaques (nothing caught my eye), around the corner is a small bar directly to your right with a hostess stand. We were seated immediately in a booth. The place is not large and we were seated in the last available booth. The other 3 booths were occupied with a German speaking family with 2 kids, a couple of women celebrating a birthday, and a couple with a guy friend. As is customary for me I presented our server Joe, with my phone containing the Groupon. He said he would get that later and gave us a minute to peruse the small and efficient wine list. My wife ordered the Riesling and I the Pinot Noir. Wine was served in an interesting glass which happens to line the window sill of this establishment. Our booth was below a large black and midnight blue painting, some sort of skyline representation. The only thing that really caught my eye décor wise was the use of small Christmas lights draped on a plant in the corner which was not a good thing but hey at least they are trying. The table did have a nice linen motif under the glass of red and white theme that looked nice and the seat was comfortable. We ordered from the special menu for Groupon customers which are printed nicely on good quality paper. For the appetizer I ordered the potato pancakes or latkes which I know them by because I have always loved them. They arrived, three on a plate to share with a dollop of sour crème and a small metal ramekin with applesauce. They are clearly homemade which was good and the flavor was there despite being slightly burnt at the edges. I found the sour crème to be fresh but could not say the same about the applesauce; in any case they desperately needed salt and pepper which I found to be the case throughout the entire experience. We were served the soup next which was a cup of chicken noodle made just like you remember when you were a kid with small noodles, carrots and fresh parsley. The salad arrived and I was impressed with the pacing, our server did an excellent job of keeping the meal flowing without a sense of urgency or lag. The salad is was unique to me. It featured iceberg lettuce, a thin slice of tomato, a few slices of beets, cold sour kraut (seemed like tart coleslaw) and some white northern beans with a creamy dressing that was listed as dill but tasted a bit like a light ranch. It is all served in a glass shallow salad bowl but kept separate. I threw caution in the wind and mixed it up. The flavors were powerful and created a unique tart and tangy taste that would have been cooled nicely by a strong dill dressing, but alas it was not. So I label this as good not great. Next up were the entrees. My wife had ordered the Norwegian Salmon, served with Risotto and green beans. The salmon was perfectly cooked and sauced with a creamy dill sauce. The green beans were fresh and snappy. I had ordered the filet that was stuffed with goat cheese and topped with a port wine mushroom sauce. It was accompanied by roasted potatoes and green beans as well. The roasted potatoes seemed to be nice and crisp on the outside as did the green beans. I say seemed, because I cut into my filet and was disappointed to see that my "medium rare" was rarer than I can do and the server who witnessed this quickly took the entire plate away. After some time he returned with a plate that was obviously micro-waved as evident from the hot plate and now limp green beans. In addition, the meat was not at the opposite end of the spectrum with the center now gray. He quickly whisked it away as well. I had urged my wife to continue eating. After a bit I could see my server milling and a motioned for him to come over. I had reached a point where I just wanted to have my entrée boxed and we would move on to our dessert. He acknowledged and headed to the kitchen. A few minutes passed and my new dish was brought to me by an older woman, with my server in tow, whom I later discovered was the owner. She was quite agitated and began to scold me for returning the steak. *** Due to the space restriction I was unable to finish the review on this website see other sites...(not good)

I really enjoyed my lunch visit here. It was inexpensive and delicious. The staff was great and it was nice to use a little German again. I would definitely stop in again next time I'm in St. Pete.

One vegetarian item to choose from. No thanks

Probably my favorite restaurant in St. Pete. Great staff and the rouladin is crazy good. Always ask for the spaetzle!

Reminds when i lived in Berlin, everything tasted homemade, highly recommended. I love schnitzel.
